Well, we had two Republican debates this weekend-- one on Saturday night on ABC and one Sunday morning on NBC/MSNBC. I found the candidates Saturday night to be kind of so-so to each other. No one seemed to have any fire in their belly, maybe because they were all tired after a long day. The Sunday morning debate was much better and all the candidates seemed to have much more spirit. I felt like Jon Huntsman came out with the best showing from these two debates. He did his best performance in the Sunday NBC debate.
I still don’t see anything in these candidates that would make me change my vote from President Obama to one of them.
Newt Gingrich just keeps trying to make people believe that he is Reagan-like. I like Ron Paul on the war issues but his views on government are way too extreme for me. Santorum seems to let his religion influence his thinking too much. Rick Perry has no clue what’s going on from debate to debate and would send our troops back into Iraq. Mitt is just saying anything to get elected even if he doesn’t believe what he’s saying. Huntsman is the better presidential candidate but lacks the personality to excite people.
The GOP candidates want to run on the same argument that the Republicans have been selling to the voters for years. Smaller government and less taxes and keep spending on the military are their only themes. I think the voters have bought that story far too long.
People want to vote for a leader that sees problems and is willing to discuss how to fix them. A leader that is willing to try things right or wrong and willing to admit mistakes from time to time. A leader that can work with other countries and not dictate to them how they should run their countries. Yes we are a great nation but so are England, Canada, France and many, many more. No one ever voted for America to rule the world.
We have a great leader right now in Washington; his name is President Obama. He’s bringing our troops home, he took out the mastermind of 9-11 and he doesn’t just jump into conflicts when people yell jump!
Four more years of President Obama is just what America needs.
