(Image credit: Getty Images via @daylife)For some reason Republicans think the American people aren't aware of what they plan on doing to Medicare in America. We understand their campaign pitch that it won't affect the elderly currently on Medicare for now but it will affect those under the age of 55 when they hit retirement age. We also know that in ten years it will affect the current users of Medicare by higher out-of-pocket costs.
Republicans are trying to scare Americans into switching from a great government-run safety net program to one that will be controlled by their rich corporate buddies.
Republicans have always been in favor of letting for profit businesses control everything.
Our Medicare system needs some tweaking just like any other health care program or insurance plan does from time to time. A few problems can be fixed without wiping out a program, along with Social Security, that has worked to keep older Americans safe and more financially secure.
If we need to get more money into Social Security and Medicare for their future survival, let's work on a plan that won't hurt the elderly or the next generations.
I suggest the first place to look for extra money is military spending. Our nation is out of control when it comes to our military budget. Cut back there and save programs that work here at home for all Americans. We can still have a strong military even with some very deep cuts. We spend about 5 times more than Russia or China do.
Don't fall for the con job by the Republicans that we have to replace Medicare or Social Security with a for profit voucher program. It's just not true!
