Some people running for office seem to think that Social Security and Medicare are bad programs. They talk like people should not be entitled to use these programs. They act like these programs are a gift to the receivers.

What’s crazy about this idea is that we Americans paid into these programs and we are entitled to collect. These programs are like forced investments. If you end up losing your home, 401K or other retirement plans, you can count on Uncle Sam for your old-age needs.  My wife and I have paid into both programs for over 48 years now. In fact my wife is working part-time now and still paying into these programs.

Social Security and Medicare have to be protected and strengthened for the next generation of Americans. These two programs are the only true protection that many older Americans have to count on.

We can’t let the Republicans win this election and take away our safety nets or worse yet turn them into another get-rich plan for insurance companies and bankers.
